Sizewell Hall Bird Watching Break
Tues 9th – Fri 12th Sept 2025

Join us for an exciting mid-week bird-watching break in September. Starting on Tuesday evening and finishing after breakfast on Friday, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people and share in a time of fellowship together.

We are also offering Early-bird pricing, so make sure to return your booking form by the Fri 1st August to take advantage of this special offer.

Each day will start with a hearty breakfast, followed by a session with worship and a thought for the day.  The middle of the day is flexible, allowing for plenty of time to pick up your provided packed lunch and take advantage of the excellent bird watching opportunities at the nearby, world-renowned, RSPB Minsmere nature reserve. RSPB Minsmere was voted Site of the Year in the Birdwatch Magazine/Birders’ Choice Awards for 2019 and is only a short drive from Sizewell Hall. An RSPB membership is recommended as this will give you access to Minsmere for free, however, this isn’t required and you will be able to pay £10 for entry to RSPB Minsmere as a non-member.

Before dinner, there will be the opportunity to take part in seminars if you wish to develop your birding knowledge further. There will also be a photo competition running throughout the break. There will be prizes on offer for the best photos, and it will serve as a great way for us to keep track of all the species seen. The Sizewell Book Shop will be open at various times throughout the break, where you can access inspirational literature, gifts cards and lots more.

This year we are excited to introduce you to a new guest speaker Ian Moore. Ian and Carol have been married for 50 years, living near Chelmsford, Essex. Ian served as a pastor for 30 years, alongside being a missionary and volunteer prison chaplain, a role Ian continues to enjoy. Ian is editor of Living Light, a quarterly daily devotional since 2023. Ian enjoys people, itinerant preaching, teaching and writing, less enjoyable in recent years is supporting Spurs! Ian’s passion is to see lives transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit through faith in God’s living word. Carol is a gifted speaker and writer of short stories, serving and supporting the ministry of the church at home and abroad.

Liz Huxley will also be joining us again, sharing some of her knowledge while leading a group around minsmere, during talks and leading some pre-breakfast bird watching opportunities around the Sizewell Hall grounds with any early risers and maybe some other opportunistic searches. Liz lives in Frinton on Sea, Essex; birdwatching has been her hobby for about 40 years. She worked for Essex Wildlife Trust for 15 years at Abberton Reservoir visitor centre, and now works part time with EWT and part time doing freelance wildlife photography, guided walks and talks. She is a member of Homelands Free Church in Walton on the Naze, and was involved in youth work there pre-covid.

In previous years John and Linda Marshall, alongside speaking, would lead a second group around minsmere to help ensure a more even spread of people in hides etc. We are pleased that Allen Beales who has attended the Bird Watching Break regularly, has agreed to lead this second group around minsmere as part of this break, as John and Linda are unable to join us for the bird watching breaks due to increasing commitments at home.

The cost for this all-inclusive break is £190 per person or the early-bird rate of £170 per person if you book before Fri 1st August*

*The cost of the break does not include entry to RSPB Minsmere as this is free to members. Bed linen is provided, but please bring your own towel.
